AID... Transition

AID being the first program to be organized in 2019 made me reach conclusion of its worthiness to be posted aside deductions. Ability in disability was specifically organized for university of ilorin students as well as students from kwara state school of special needs. The program was put together to create an awareness that people with impairment are not to be marginalized. AID was organized by #JPC, a NGO on campus in conjunction with student health, being part of the organizers of this event, I was opportuned to further learn about other people expressly. I have always had my opinion about impaired people but then AID helped transition my view from a shadow to reality. Having gotten this ray, I thought it wise to share with the entirety of the public :

Aid was intelligently anchored by the president of department of English who is visually impaired. His high display of intellectual intelligence only inferred that the only limitation you think you have is the one you set for yourself. He being without sight doesn’t imply that he is without insight.

A wonderful poem was also presented by a part 3 student of Agriculture, she titled her poem “I am deaf not daft". An overview of what people sharing her impairment was deduced. Communication is a barrier but then humanity shouldn’t be lacking. “Though dumb but not without a voice and conscience”.

Further deductions:

People with disabilities don’t want to be pitied, they want to be recognized, they have abilities and are not beggars. Your empathy is the required beyond sympathy. They are special, intelligent , with high sense of humor as well as purpose. The only challenge that could exist for a man isn’t vision... rather the state of mind.

Conclusively, AID has incited me to put in more effort to learn more about these people and being a part of this is actually a great deal. Patience alongside humanity would go a long way in being empathetic.
